Water Damage – What Next?

Water damage happens in every house, and you can be sure that it will happen to you at least once. In some cases it happens slowly, sometimes the water comes suddenly causing immediate damage. No matter which of the above happened to you, you are probably wondering what to do now.
Your priority should be safety. Water and electricity is a deadly combination, so you need to avoid it at all cost. Make sure that the power is turned off before entering a room destroyed by water. It is very important as if you forget to turn off the electricity, the result might be fatal.
Once you switched off all the electricity breakers it is time to stop the water source. Problem with a pipe? Turn off the water. Leaking roof? Secure it and call the professional immediately. Remember, stopping the source is crucial to avoid further damages.
It is time now to call a local repair company to have the problem fixed and start mopping up. Try to remove as much water as you can. You might also want to call your insurance company if the damage is serious.
To prevent further damage move things such as carpets, furniture and electronics from the flooded room. The best option would be to let them dry out outside, but if it is not possible, place them in another room. If the furniture is too heavy to be moved make sure that you dry the floor around and under it!
Ask your neighbors to help you. It is very important that you remove as much water as possible and as fast as possible.
Use things such as fans to improve the air circulation in the room which will speed up the drying process. If you have a wet vacuum cleaner it is time to use it now!
Make sure that you remove the water from under the doors, furniture and from every place where it can collect and cause further damage.
The faster you take the steps to remove the water, the smaller damage it will cause. Quick action can save your furniture, electronics and more from being damaged. Also, if you act fast you have a good chance to avoid mold.
Mold loves moist environment and therefore you should dry the damaged room as soon as you can. Mold appears very quickly, so it is always a good idea to call a professional to finish off the water extraction.
Another thing you must not forget to do is disinfecting your home. Water not only damages your belongings, but it also contaminates them. It is obvious for toilet overflows, but even clean water can contaminate your furniture, carpets etc. You need to therefore make sure that everything is not only dry, but also decontaminated.
Remember, if you experienced water damage fast action is crucial. Get help and start working as soon as possible to minimize the damage.

Instructions For Accomplishing The Proper Home Organization Solution

No matter the size of it, the home organization solutions job that you will be tackling, is fixable. This isn’t a task that can be resolved in one day, however. Understand that home organizing is a long-term project. Think small steps. Then get a sheet of paper and begin the rules that are below.

1 – Begin With a Home Organization Goal

Create your de-cluttering goals and after that, prioritize these goals.

List all the areas that you would like to organize then order what areas need the most organizing help. One reason to choose one area instead of another could be because it is a room that is most used, it is a room seen first by guest to your home, or it is an area that you feel could contribute the biggest difference to your own comfort. Write down the numbers, by priority, next to each room.

Then, on a separate sheet of paper, write down your first room. Write down every one of the sections of the room that need to be organized. These sections should be relatively simple. As an example, good projects for your chosen area could be: under the bed, on a work surface, a sock drawer, and so on. As you complete these tasks, you will proudly be able to mark off each of these baby steps.

Don’t forget, neither of the goals are required to be completed in a day or even a week. Just focus on one project at a time. Keeping things simple is the fastest road to home organization.

2 – Get Rid of the Clutter

Clear all of the stuff out of the listed project area for the room.

If your first project area is the underwear drawer, then this job simply needs you to purge everything out of that section. Done with step two.

3 – Section Now Needs to be Sorted

Separate the stuff out of the section that you are working on.

Make different piles for ‘trash’, ‘belongs in a different area’, and ’stays here’. Note that:

* If something hasn’t been used by you in six months, it goes in the garbage pile
* If you use the item frequently, you need to keep it nearest to where you use it.
* If you don’t use the item a lot or just use it seasonally, then it can be put away elsewhere that is harder to retrieve, like on a top shelf or bottom drawer.

4 – Reduce the Amount of Items

Just for now, remove all the stuff that don’t belong in the section.

If you have items in the ‘garbage’ pile, put it in the trash. If you have items in the ‘goes somewhere else’ pile, get it away from your section (this includes items that only need to go in a drawer below). What is left over are only the belongings that belong in the section that you are organizing.

5 – Making the Storage Solution

Prepare a solution for maintaining organization for the section that is being organized.

The area you are organizing needs to have a storage solution in place that performs for you. Get organizers that will have you stay organized. If it is a drawer, dividers with labels may be the system that works and has the longest effect. If it is a shelf, dividers and labels might work, and so on. (Note the dividers and labels theme). The idea is to ensure that you feel most at ease using the the new organized area and that it becomes more difficult to place the articles in the wrong section.

6 – Get Things Put Back

Now you need to put your belongings that go in that spot, back into the section, using the organizer you put in place.

You can now mark this section off your list and either move-on with another section or wait until the next day to do the next section……..just don’t take too long.
